The town of Jáchymov was originally a mining town, today is known as a unique radon spa and a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage. Jachymov was founded in 1516, after finding rich silver deposits and 13 years later it became the second most populated city in the Czech Republic. Over the time, silver mining has grown to include other minerals such as lead, tin and others. The most important moment was the discovery of radium, which lead to the creation of the first radon spa in the world in 1906. Today it is a quiet small town, which is regaining its favour after the outflow of locals during the World War II and the Soviet occupation. It is also an ideal place for health regeneration, relaxation, but also offers many opportunities for summer and winter sports.

The Hospital Church is an inconspicuous church from 1516, today the oldest preserved monument of Jachymov, practically in its original form. In the Museum of the Royal Coin Manufactury, you can visit the exposition of mineral resources of the Ore Mountains, the Latin Library and the history of Jachymov. Jachymov with its mines served primarily during the Second World War and then during the Soviet occupation as a labour camp for the regime prisoners. They were locked up in 18 different camps in the Jachymov area. You can see most of the mines or their remains on the Jachymov Hell Trail, which is 8.5 km long and has a total of 12 stops. One of them is the mine Svornost directly in Jachymov, in which silver was mined first, then uranium and now it serves as a spa facility, from which four medicinal underground radon springs are extracted. 

The surroundings of Jachymov offer plenty of views of the Ore Mountains. Take a walk to Pop Cross or Snake Mountain. A 15-minute drive from Jáchymov is the beautiful Baroque Mountain Castle - Hauenštejn from the 13th century, which was privately bought in 2000 by a new lord, who gradually saved it from a sad fate. Equally far, but on the other side to the German border, you can set out to the Klinovec lookout tower, the highest point in the Ore Mountains, where you can enjoy the local SKI area in winter or try the Trail Park in summer. You can use the by cableway directly from Jachymov to get there.
