Teplice is the oldest SPA in the Czech Republic and one of the oldest in Europe. Teplice used to be known before World War II. as a little Paris, thanks to the cities high cultural standards and classical architecture. The town lies in a picturesque valley between the Ore Mountains and the Bohemian Uplands.
The great fire of the city in 1793 was a complete disaster. Except for Krupska, Dlouha and Zidovska streets, all spa buildings in the city centre and in the suburbs burned down. In about hour and a half, approximately two hundred buildings burned down. The SPA centres and the surrounding areas were completely rebuilt from the hot spring called "Pravridlo" that was founded in 762 to Women's Baths, Prince Baths, Stephan Baths, Temple Baths and Sand Baths where you can indulge in therapeutic treatments today.
